About Kat Kozlowski

Decades of Experience.
A Different
Approach to Self-Defense.

Hi, I'm Kat Kozlowski.

I’ve spent more than 38 years involved in martial arts, self-defense, competition and teaching.

“Self-defense is about much more than knowing how to fight.”

— Kat Kozlowski

My Background

Martial Arts, Competition & Teaching

During that time, I’ve earned a fourth-degree black belt, competed as a national and world kickboxing champion, trained in multiple self-defense systems and earned instructor certifications in reality-based self-defense.

But after decades of training and teaching, one of the most important things I’ve learned is this:

Self-defense is about much more than knowing how to fight.

Physical skills have their place. But long before a situation becomes physical, there may be opportunities to notice something, recognize a boundary being crossed, use your voice, create distance, leave or make another decision.

Those skills deserve to be taught, too.

Why I Created This

Why I Created Self Defense for Women

Over the years, women came to self-defense classes for many different reasons.

Those experiences reinforced something I’d seen again and again:

Self-defense often begins long before anyone throws a punch.

It can begin with…

Noticing

Listening to your intuition

Recognizing when a boundary is being tested or ignored

Using your voice

Creating distance

Leaving

Asking for help

Making a decision sooner rather than later

I wanted to create a place where women could develop those skills without fear-based messaging—and without needing to become martial artists.

That’s what led to SelfDefenseForWomen.online and the Calm Confidence Method.

The Calm Confidence Philosophy

I believe personal safety education should help you become more confident—not more afraid.

That means learning to:

Become more aware of what's happening around you

Recognize behavior that deserves your attention

Trust yourself enough to take concerns seriously

Understand and communicate your boundaries

Become more comfortable saying no

Use your voice more confidently

Think through situations before you're under pressure

Recognize that you have options

Prepare without becoming consumed by fear

I call that Calm Confidence.

It isn’t about having the perfect response to every situation.

It’s about developing awareness, judgment, preparation and confidence so you’re better equipped to make decisions for yourself.

You Don't Have to Become a Martial Artist

You Don't Have to Become a Martial Artist

You don’t need decades of training to begin becoming more aware.
You don’t need a black belt to practice setting boundaries.
And you don’t need to become a fighter to start thinking differently about your personal safety.

That’s what Self Defense for Women is here to help you do.

Start small. Learn. Practice. Build Calm Confidence.
